The interaction of externally controlled chirped femtosecond pulses in a two-photon material was investigated. Numerical simulations based on the solution of nonlinear Schrödinger equation, including two-photon absorption and nonlinear propagation effects, were compared to experiments performed on CdS crystal. The experimental results for different chirps (positive and negative) are found to be in excellent agreement with the numerical simulations. A temporal narrowing of the probe beam due to a cross-phase modulation from a pump beam was also observed.
