We use first-principles electronic structures together with the model of “breathing Fermi surface” to calculate the magnetic damping rates for ferromagnetic Fe, Co, and Ni. The numerical results are found to be in reasonable agreement with the experimental data at low temperatures; in particular, we find an order of magnitude difference between Fe and the other two studied materials. © 2002 The American Physical Society URL:
