Information about the spectral properties of ballistic electrons in an electron waveguide can be obtained from low-frequency conduction experiments or calculations. These spectral properties determine the response of the electrons to high-frequency external fields. We find that high-frequency fields can excite quasibound states of the waveguide and cause dramatic enhancement of power absorption by the ballistic electrons in the waveguide.
