Phys. Rev. B 45, 14100–14107 (1992)Bound states in twisting tubesReceived 25 November 1991; published in the issue dated 15 June 1992 The wave equation subject to Dirichlet boundary conditions has a bound state in an infinite tube of constant cross section in any number of dimensions, provided that the tube is not exactly straight. We prove this result, develop Green’s-function methods to find the energy eigenvalue, and solve some simple cases. We discuss the implications for quantum systems and electromagnetic waveguides. © 1992 The American Physical Society URL:
