An inverse dielectric matrix obtained in a mixed-band-structure scheme has been used in expressions for the core-hole-induced charge density n(r) and screening energy Rm. In this scheme n(r) and Rm are separable into isotropic and anisotropic contributions. Numerical results of n(r) and Rm have been predicted for a number of transition metals. The calculated and excited-atom-model results for Rm agree to within 5% for all the metals. The d-electron contribution to the screening energy is found to be of the order of 20–40 %.
