B 4, 2224–2228 (1971)Direction of the Magnetic Easy Axis in γ′ -Fe4 NReceived 13 May 1971; published in the issue dated 1 October 1971 The direction of the easy axis of magnetization in γ′ -Fe4N has been determined by detailed analysis of certain peaks in the Mössbauer spectrum of a powdered sample in an applied magnetic field. The analysis indicates the magnetic-easy-axis direction to be along 〈100〉. The electric field gradient at the face-centered Fe atoms is calculated to be - 7.0×1014 esu/cm3. © 1971 The American Physical Society URL:
